On Monday, July 4, at 8 am, a private bus crashed into a canyon in the Kullu region of Himachal Pradesh, killing at least 12 people, including students.
On the Neoli-Shansher route in the Kullu district, the bus fell down a cliff in the Jangla neighbourhood in Sainj Valley. According to Deputy Commissioner Kullu Ashutosh Garg, who was reported by the news agency ANI, the injured are being transported to nearby hospitals, and teams from Kullu have been sent to the scene.
The bus had at least 40 children aboard when the incident happened, according to the authorities. On-site rescue efforts are in progress.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the Kullu bus disaster, calling it “heart-rending,” and added that his sympathies were with the families who lost loved ones.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “The bus accident in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh is heart-rending. In this tragic hour my thoughts are with the bereaved families. I hope those injured recover at the earliest. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to those affected.”
In addition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi authorised an ex-gratia payment from PMNRF of Rs 2 lakh per person for the surviving family members of those who perished in the sad bus accident in Himachal Pradesh. Each wounded person would receive Rs 50,000.
