AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan detained for blocking MCD’s anti-encroachment drive

DELHI: AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan detained by Delhi police at Madanpur Khadar for creating a ruckus.

Delhi saw another anti-encroachment drive in several parts on Thursday, days after bulldozers reached the Shaheen Bagh area. Amanatullah Khan was seen in Madanpur Khadar as he protested against the action by the civic body.

SDMC’s Central Zone licensing inspector wrote, “Amanatullah Khan MLA (Okhla) along with his supporters present did not allow the field staff of the zone SDMC to remove the encroachment. In view of the above, you are requested to take appropriate legal action against Amanatullah Khan and his supporters for interfering in the discharge of official duties by public servants.”

“You said that you will remove encroachments. I am with you in this. But you are demolishing poor people’s houses. There is not a single encroachment in this area.”

“I am ready to go to jail if it saves the houses of poor people. There is no encroachment here. I will support them (civic body) in demolition if there is any encroachment,” Amanatullah Khan said while speaking to the media.

Khan took to Twitter and wrote “I stepped in and halted the demolition drive in Madanpur Khadar, where the MCD is running bulldozers over the houses of the poor”.

The situation on ground turned extremely volatile soon after Khan was detained and people resorted to stone pelting. The police had to use force to disperse the crowd.

According to reports stone pelters have also been detained
