On August 17, an ophthalmologist was arrested by NIA as he was found involved in alleged activities. He was working for Islamic State Khorasan Province Unit(ISKP) operated in parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
A group of 3 friends traveled to an Islamic state in the early days of the formation of the Islamic state. After returning, one became a doctor while another became an engineer. Among which Abdur Rahman, who was taken to Delhi on transit warrant was developing medical and weaponry applications for IS cadres. He was developing a medical application that had instructions related to ‘important medicines, what to do in a medical emergency, and what to do in case of no medical help’.
The case was registered by Delhi Police Special cell in March 2020. The Kashmiri couple- Jahanzaib Sami Wani and his wife Hina Bashir Beigh who was arrested after they were found involved in “subversive and anti-national activities”. The couple reportedly had connections with ISKP.
All the locations linked with Rahman were searched out with the help of the Karnataka Police. All the mobile phones, digital devices, and a laptop containing “incriminating material” were seized.
An officer said, “The arrested accused will be produced before the NIA Special Court at New Delhi and NIA remand will be sought for his custodial interrogation. Further investigation in the case is continued”
