Andhra Pradesh: 20 hospitalised in Ammonia gas leak in a dairy at Chittoor

A total of 20 workers majority of them are women have fallen sick because of Ammonia leaks.

Last night on Thursday, dairy belonging to a private agro-based company at Bandapalli village of Chittoor with reflected an ammonia leak issue.

Three victims shifted to Shuai hospital in the temple town of Tirupati. Five others admitted to CMC hospital in Vellore in the nearest neighboring villages.

One of the police officials said, ” victims are undergoing treatment in a government hospital in Chittoor.”

Narayan Bharat Gupta, Collector of Chittoor district and Police Superintendent Senthil Kumar visited the hospital and supervised the whole process of the rescue operation.

We have ordered an inquiry and the exact cause of the mishap will be revealed only later. The possible human negligence angle will also be probed,” Gupta said.

According to the Collector, “welding work was going on while this mishap occurred in one of the units of the dairy.” He added that the conditions of the workers undergoing treatment were stable.
