Assam Administration demolishes 5 houses after police station set on fire 

ASSAM: Assam Nagaon administration bulldozed Houses of 5 families allegedly involved in setting fire to a police station. Accused set Batadrava police station on fire in Nagaon district after a man allegedly died in police custody.

After that, officers who were in charge of Batadrava Police Station’s were suspended for failing to prevent a mob from vandalising the station .

According to police, Kumar Gogoi was the Incharge of the station at that time along with the other police station employees, so subsequently strict action has been taken against the police station Incharge and employees for fleeing the scene when a mob burned the police station on fire.

Meanwhile all the police station staff have been replaced soon after the incident and investigation is under process. Strict action would be taken if anyone involved in vandalism or a riot-like situation would face severe consequences.

DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said, “We have taken the matter of untimely death of Safiqul Islam very seriously,” meanwhile suspension has been issued to OC of Batadraba thana and closed the rest of the staff.“ If there is any wrongdoing on our part, we intend to uncover it and punish those who are responsible according to the law. An investigation is going on so we have to wait for the results.

According to the reports, On May 20, Safiqul Islam a 39 year old man was bought to Batadrava Police Station around 9:30 p.m after a complaint of him being inebriated, according to the police. Safiqul Islam died in the police custody because of that mob from Batadrava set fire to the police station

After that his family claimed that the police station officers misbehaved with him and were demanding a bribe, which included a duck, in exchange for his release.
