CM Mamata Banerjee serves ‘puchka’ at a stall in Darjeeling

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, astonished the residents in Darjeeling by offering pani puri (called puchka in the state).

On social media, a video of Mamata Banerjee serving puchkas at a booth has gone viral. The Chief Minister is being photographed by the villagers.

The Trinamool Congress has published a footage of her interactions with villagers on their Facebook page.

Mamata Banerjee arrived at Bagdogra Airport near Siliguri on the afternoon of July 11 to partake in the oath-taking ceremony of the newly-elected members of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), where elections were held after a gap of 10 years.

Political parties promised the people a separate Gorkhaland state and the application of the Sixth Schedule, which offers autonomy to a tribally populated territory, during many agitations in Darjeeling over the years.

After ten years, during which the political climate of the area saw several changes, the GTA held its elections in June.

With 27 out of 45 seats won, the nine-month-old BGPM emerged as the dominant force in the GTA elections.
