Congress President: Party once again turned to Sonia Gandhi for leadership, will continue as interim President

After a power-packed and high-level meeting of Congress Party at the CWC meeting on Monday, Sonia Gandhi will continue as the interim president of the Congress party for now.

The action-packed CWC meet ended in a with demands for change in the party leadership resulting in Congress returning to the stalemate choice.

Dr. Manmohan Singh and AK Anthony also urged reportedly for Sonia Gandhi to stay as Congress Chief.

In her opening comments at the meeting, called in the demand of a section of leaders seeking a “full time and visible” Congress president. Sonia Gandhi made the offer to quit saying she had given a detailed reply on the issue to AICC general secretary K C Venugopal.

Even though Sonia Gandhi insisted on leaving her post as Congress chief, the party has once again looked back to her for her sheer guidance urged her to eliminate its leadership crisis.


The turmoil of Congress party is increasing as the talks over party leadership is growing. As the conversation is making frontpage headlines, Rahul Gandhi shows his reluctance in taking over any top position in the party. He stands with his decision of appointing a ‘non-Gandhi’ leader before he finally decides to take up the charge.

According to an ‘Indian Express’ article, Ex-Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh or AK Antony can take up the charge of Interim President of the party. The decisions can be taken to appoint Rahul Gandhi as Congress President once the Pandemic is over by calling another Party meetings.

According to media sources, Sonia Gandhi is adamant to step down from the Party’s President position. She suggested party members choose another President as her tenure of one year as an interim party president is over.

Priyanka Vadra is seen as a suitable option to consider but as she herself denied to be involved as a Party leader and showed reluctance towards the party’s leader post.

Priyanka Vadra during Uttar Pradesh elections had cleared that she had no issues working with a ‘Non-Gandhi’ leader.

She clarified further that the family respected Rahul Gandhi’s decision to step down or resign from Party’s President post. And had also mentioned that the family is in favor of a ‘Non-Gandhi’ leader.

A letter to Sonia Gandhi 

23 top leaders of the party earlier this month including members from the Congress Working Committee (CWC), wrote a letter to President Sonia Gandhi over the state affairs at the party.

The letter has been signed by both veteran leaders as well as the young army of Congress Party including Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, Manish Tiwari, Raj Babbar, Arvinder Singh Lovely, and Sandeep Dikshit, etc.

On Sunday, Sonia Gandhi interim president of the Party responded to the letter of her party colleagues asking for constructive changes within the internal organization and committee of Congress party.

Sonia Gandhi’s Reply 

According to sources, Sonia Gandhi sent a formal reply in which she said that her tenure as an interim president is complete and she would like to step down and resign from the Party’s President Post.

On Monday Party decided to have a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC). Sources were active and told India Today TV that this meeting was called as a response to the letter to discuss the organizational problems pointed out by Congress leaders to be resolved and point out on priority issues.

It is expected that Sonia Gandhi will express her wish to hang her responsibility and tell members that they can choose their leader.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has opposed the demand of Congress leaders to challenge the Gandhi family’s leadership of the party. The veteran Congressman said,” this is not the time to raise such an issue, given the need for a strong opposition against the BJP-led NDA that is out to destroy the country’s constitutional ethos and democratic principles.”

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel mentioned in his letter to Rahul Gandhi saying: “For every challenge, Sonia Ji and Rahul Ji are the beacons of light. We are all with you. Congress workers in Chhattisgarh and crores from across the country along with citizens are with you.”

Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said, “I saw the news in some newspapers that ex congressmen wanted overhaul and changes in congress party This kind of statement will create confusion in the minds of millions of congressmen This a ploy by BJP to divert the attention of people from Facebook controversy.” writing it on Twitter.
