Since this pandemic started there are two essentials things that one have to carry – a mask and a sanitizer. Not wearing a mask at public places have become an offence. There has been a lot of debates and discussion about whether the face mask is helpful or not.
Recently, health experts and international health authorities have declared that ‘wearing a face mask is safe and when properly worn they do not cause carbon dioxide intoxication, oxygen deficiency, pneumonia or fungal lung infections.

Wearing a face mask have helped in preventing the spread of virus along with sanitizing your hands and maintaining social distancing.
Types of Mask
Also known, as a medical mask is a loose-fitting disposable mask. Which creates a physical barrier between your mouth and nose help in preventing contact with droplets, splashes and sprays that may contain germs. They are made in different thicknesses and with different ability to protect from contact with liquids. These properties may affect how easily one can breathe through the face mask.
2. N95 Mask
This mask offers more protection than the surgical mask. It is a type of respirator which can filter out both large and small particles when the wearer inhales. As the name indicates, it blocks block 95% of very small particles. Some N95 masks have valves and help unfiltered air to release when the wearer exhales.
The valve releases unfiltered air when the wearer breathes out and thus this mask doesn’t prevent the wearer from spreading the virus. Hence, this mask is banned in many places.
3. Cloth Mask
Cloth mask can be seen as effective in preventing the virus. As, it intends to trap droplets that are released when the wearer talks, coughs or sneezes. It is seen that wearing cloth mask in public can reduce the chance of virus to spread but its just an addition to social distancing. Masks like N95 and surgical mask should be kept for health workers and essential workers.
These masks can be made from common material like cotton sheets or t-shirts.
How to wear and clean cloth face mask ?
- Wash or sanitize your hands before and after wearing mask.
- Wear your mask above your mouth and nose.
- Tie behind your ear loops and make sure you wear properly.
- After wearing for 2-3 times wash your mask.
- Prepare a bleach solution and wash in the bleach water for 5 minutes.
- Rinse the mask with cool or room temperature water.
- Make sure the mask is dry before wearing again.
One should follow these steps to keep themselves protected from the virus and maintain social distancing.
