On July 28th, Congress MLA Keisham Meghachandra Singh moved a no-confidence motion against the state with BJP as its ruling party. This move was countered by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh moving a confidence motion in the Manipur Assembly in order to establish the numbers in his favor.
As a result, a special one day assembly will be deciding the fate of BJP as the legislators will vote in Imphal today.
On June 17, the BJP-led coalition government underwent a major political crisis, after the resignation of three legislators who joined the Congress and the disqualification of four members under the anti-defection law, reducing the strength of the 60 member House to 53.

Both the BJP & Congress have requested their MLAs to be present during the trust vote today for the support. A discussion will be held regarding the business agenda of the House & Congress will be highlighting high profile cases like those surrounding Lhukhosei Zou, a BJP leader & his involvement in the major drug bust in Manipur.
Manipur Congress spokesperson Ningomgbam Bupenda Meitei said, “The opposition Congress is confident to defeat the motion. The Congress has already issued three lines whip to all its 24 MLAs in the House.”
Meanwhile, BJP state president S. Tikendra Singh said that he was confident that BJP will win more than 30 trust votes, despite the coalition’s in house strength of 29.
As of now BJP has the support of four Naga People’s Front (NPF) MLAs and one legislator of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) & both the parties wait for the final judgment, that will decide the fate of Manipur.
