Prime Minister Narendra Modi Government is all set to invite Australia for the annual Malabar naval exercises next month alongside the United States and Japan, which have already confirmed their participation. This meeting will further lay the foundations for the formalisation of QUAD.

According to Officials, This Malabar exercises will take place in two stages at the Bay of Bengal, the 2019 exercise took place from September 26 to October 4 off the coast of Japan. On November 3-6 and 17-20, meeting related to Naval exercise featuring QUAD members will be held.
Modi Government to unveil Australia’s name shortly. A section of the Defence Ministry is deliberating the impact of the QUAD exercise on the on-going military-diplomatic talks to resolve the Ladakh stand-off with China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
The exercise comes after the QUAD Foreign Ministers meeting in Tokyo on October 6 and will follow shortly after the India-US two plus two dialogue on October 26-27 during which the geo-spatial agreement called BECA is expected to be signed by the two countries.
