A journalist working with a Hindi news channel was shot dead in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh on August 24. The incident comes within a month after a journalist was killed in front of his two daughters in Ghaziabad.

The victim, Ratan Singh (42) was beaten up before he was killed near his residence, which was just 700 metres from his own house. Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said four people, Dinesh Singh, Arvind Singh, Suneel Singh and Moti Singh, have been arrested in this connection. Taking cognizance in the matter Ballia police tweeted “Ratan Singh had an old dispute with his relatives. Three persons have been immediately taken into custody. The incident has nothing to do with journalism”.

The deceased journalist, identified as Vikram Joshi was travelling with his daughters when a group of men surrounded his bike, and started pulling and hitting him harshly. He suffered a bullet injury on his head after villains opened fire at him. The incident took place near his residence too.
