Amidst the tensions and border disputes between two Asia’s biggest Superpowers and apparently neighbours to each other, Indian and Chinese troops near Pangong Tso region in Ladakh, Two countries have finally decided to meet at Moscow.
Chinese Defence Minister General Wei Fenghe and Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh sought a meeting on Friday on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Moscow.
It was reported that the meeting was sought first by China on request to India with Defence Ministers in Moscow. Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is already present at the Capital city of Russia for SCO Defence Ministers’ meeting.

Stand-off between India and China has been erupted for the third time, initially started from May. According to reports, China requested to have a Defence Minister’s meeting for the third time. But India is yet to respond to China and its request.
The stand-off disruptions, on-going border tensions between India and China especially at Eastern Ladakh is responsible for China’s request to have Defence Minister’s level meeting. After India gained control and command over major strategic heights at the northern and southern points of Pangong Tso Lake.
Solution lies in Diplomacy
Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday said, “the solution to the border standoff lies in diplomacy alone.”
S Jaishankar was speaking at his book launch ‘The India Way’ said, ” It was vital for both India and China to reach an “accommodation” not just for themselves, but the world has a lot riding on it.”
He furthermore added, “It is imperative for both countries to reach an accommodation. There is a lot riding on it. Our position has been clear that we have agreements and understandings that should be scrupulously observed. Neither side should change the status quo. What happens on the border will impact the relationship.”
“I made this point a few days earlier in another context, I would say that I am totally convinced that the solution to the situation has to be found in the domain of diplomacy. And I say that with responsibility”.
He mentioned important aspect that both the countries being a civilisational states are entering into Fourth Industrial Revolution while other big countries couldn’t. So he regarded border tensions and disputes as obvious.
Defence Minister of India wrote on Twitter, “Excellent meeting with the Russian Defence Minister General Sergey Shoigu in Moscow today. We talked about a wide range of issues, particularly how to deepen defence and strategic cooperation between both the countries.”
