Shami’s estranged wife urges PM Modi to change India’s name to Bharat or Hindustan

Hasin Jahan, the estranged spouse of renowned fast bowler Mohammed Shami of the Indian cricket team, made a novel plea to Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on India’s 76th Independence Day.

She posted a video on her official Instagram account today of herself dancing to the well-known Bollywood classic “Desh Mera Rangeela.” Not her dancing, but her “request” to PM Modi and HM Shah to alter the country’s name is what makes this video special. Instead of India, she asked for Bharat or Hindustan to be used as the country’s name.

“Our country our pride. I Love bharat, Hamre desh ka name sirf Hindustan ya bharat hona chahye. Mananiya pradhan mantri jee, mananiya griha mantri jee Se darkhwast hai ke India name ko change kijie jese Ki poore world hamare desh ko Bharat ya Hindustan kahe naki India,” Hasin Jahan in her Instagram post.

In 2014, Mohammed Shami, a pacer for Team India, and Hasin Jahan married. After a few years, in 2018, Hasin Jahan levelled several grave accusations against her husband Shami, including domestic abuse and match-fixing. Shami was cleared of the charges by the BCCI, and he continued to represent the nation.
