Telangana Fire: Nine Still Stuck in the Power House

Telangana: A massive fire broke out in Hyderabad’s underground hydel power units of the Srisailam project on Thursday night. The incident happened at the fourth panel in the first hydel power unit of the left powerhouse at approximately 10.30 pm.

About 15-20 persons were on duty at the time of the incident. While 15 employees came out immediately, nine got reportedly stuck in the Telengana fires.

Telangana energy minister G Jagadishwar Reddy, Genco chairman managing director D Prabhakar Rao rushed to the spot shortly. Telangana Genco and AP Genco aided in the rescue and relief measures, following the events that led to the Telangana Fires.

“Four panels got damaged due to the fire accident. Smoke spread to the unit immediately. Though the staff turned off the power, they could not go ahead with the rescue procedures due to heavy smoke. The injured were rushed to the hospital,” Jagadish Reddy said.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao expressed his shock over the tragedy. He has been eliciting data on the mishap regularly. The CM also spoke to Jagdeesh Reddy and Transco, Genco CMD D Prabhakar Rao regarding the relief and rescue measures.
