KOLKATA: A 14-year-old minor girl from Nadia district of Bengal died after she was allegedly gang-raped at a birthday party, police told on April 10, 2022.
The parents of the victim filed a police complaint against the accused Brajgopal Goala (21), the son of Samar Goala, a Trinamool Congress panchayat member at Hanskhali police station on 9 April 2022, four days after the incident.
The case has been registered under sections 376(2)(G) (gang rape), 302 (murder), 204 (tampering with evidence) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to the complaint, the girl was invited by Brajgopal beside his friends at his residence on Monday afternoon to attend his birthday party, but she returned home in a delicate condition and died soon after.
The victim’s mother told reporters, “Our daughter was bleeding profusely and had severe abdominal pain after she came back from the party at the residence of the local TMC leader’s son, and before we could take her to hospital, she died.”
“From the sequence of events and after talking to the people present at the party, we are sure she was gang-raped by the accused and his friends.”
Her mother claimed that her daughter was gang-raped after the accused made her drink, forcefully.
She also alleged that Brajgopal and his friends tried to force them to cremate the body and warned them against informing the police even before her death certificate was issued.
Reacting to the incident, Sashi Panja, the state’s Minister of Women and Child Development, said the ruling party has zero-tolerance for abuse of minors and women. No need to do politics over this. Police will take the necessary actions to investigate the case.
At the same time, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party has announced a 12-hour band in the Hanskhali district in protest against gang rape.
