A man was detained in Sambhal for allegedly insulting religious sentiments by attempting to assault a police squad while simultaneously selling chicken on a sheet of paper with images of Hindu deities.
According to authorities, the incident happened on Sunday when some individuals complained that Talib Hussain was offending their religious sentiments by selling chicken from his business on a piece of paper with an image of a Hindu deity and goddess.
“The incident took place on Sunday when some people complained that Talib Hussain was selling chicken from his shop on a piece of paper carrying a picture of a Hindu god and goddess, hurting their religious feeling,” police said.
According to the FIR, Hussain assaulted the police team with a knife with the intent to murder when they arrived at his establishment.
He has been charged under IPC Sections 153-A (promoting enmity between groups on the basis of religion, race, place of birth, or residence), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to incite religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), and 307 (promoting enmity between groups on the basis of religion, race, place of birth, or residence) (attempt to murder).
